The #gaygeeks-asl Code of Conduct

For our purposes, the channel has two controlling documents, the Code of Conduct, which is about how we treat each other, and the Channel Guidelines, which concerns how we treat the channel. This document is the Code of Conduct.

Summary:
#gaygeeks-asl is dedicated to providing a welcoming and harassment-free chat experience for everyone, regardless of gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.

Things you should do:

  1. Be Excellent To Each Other.
  2. Assume Good Faith
  3. Embrace Empathy

Do nots:

  1. Don't Be A Dick
  2. Don't harass others
  3. Incite rule breaking (Code of Conduct or Channel Guidelines) in others
  4. Don't break the law or encourage others to
  5. Don't presume the worst interpretation of what others have said

What Defines Harassment?
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of the channel, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Channel participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Anyone in the channel who engages in harassing behavior will be asked to leave the channel, and/or kicked and banned.

If You Need Help
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a channel op or if none are available, a member of Freenode staff immediately.

To obtain a list of channel ops: /msg chanserv access #gaygeeks-asl list

Finally:
If this document seems to conflict with the Channel Guidelines, it is because like all things in life, there are competing interests that must be weighed. For example, trolls and those speaking their sincerely held hate speech are engaged in speaking freely. We kick ban them anyway, because channel members interest in not being harassed outweighs the free speech interest of hate trolls.
